What XAUUSD means

XAUUSD is the spot symbol for one troy ounce of gold priced in US dollars. XAU is the code for gold, and USD is the dollar. A shop price, a futures symbol, and a gram price in local currency are different numbers.

Editorial update 25 October 2026.

By the Buyndsell editorial desk. No personal track record is claimed.

One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams. If a jeweler quotes grams, or a Thai shop quotes baht weight, you cannot compare that number with XAUUSD until you convert weight and purity.

What the symbol is not

  • It is not COMEX GC. GC is a gold futures contract in New York.
  • It is not the LBMA Gold Price by itself. That benchmark is an auction in London. Spot trades around the clock and the auction prints twice on a London business day.
  • It is not a signal. The symbol only names the market. A buy or sell ticket is a separate claim about direction.

Brokers disagree on contract size. One platform's 'lot' may be 100 ounces and another's may be 1 ounce. Read the contract specification before you turn a ticket into an order. Buyndsell does not send that order.

Questions

Is XAUUSD the same as the gold price on the news?

Often it is close to the wholesale dollar price of an ounce. A retail story may use a different currency, a different weight, or a futures price. Match the unit before you compare.

Does Buyndsell quote a live XAUUSD price?

No. This skeleton does not stream a price. Session pages convert known London and New York hours into a local clock.
